Currently in Uganda, there is a growing trend in innovation where we are experiencing growth in the startup community mainly in the capital, Kampala. This study is done in particular fulfilment for the award of a bachelor’s of architecture degree and it was conducted over a period of 13 weeks. This research aimed to investigate and find out how the collaborative workspaces are designed for functionality to create enabling environments for startups. Through the research, we may be able to engage various stakeholders to gain incites to the design of the spaces. A qualitative approach was taken to collect the necessary data and information including use of direct observations, photography, document study and use of open-end interviews. Previous literature on concepts and theories surrounding the research topic were analyzed and this gave rise to a conceptual framework that was vital in understanding how spatial design is used to create collaborative spaces. Recommendations for design under the concepts were provided in the conclusion chapter and guidelines suggested for the design of innovation hubs.en_US
