Hazardous waste managementremains one of the serious challengesfaced by urban authorities. This has a direct impact on the environment and most especially the wetlands which act as dumping grounds for the uncollected wastes. This has led to the destructions of the entire wetlands and their ecosystem to near extinction.Previous initiatives to handle waste collection and disposal such as licensing privatewaste collection companies, forexampleBin-ITServices Limited(BISL)tend not to focus on Information and Communication Technologyto supplement other efforts. Therefore, the aim of this study wastocome up with an online hazardous waste management system for Bin-IT Services Limited(BISL) tohandle the collection of hazardous waste from the time it leaves the generator facility, until it reaches the waste collection pointsthat will store, treat ordispose of the hazardous waste. The study was carried out in Kampala City since it’s the most industrialized and populated. This was achieved through extensive research, User and System requirements collection using questionnaires, interviewsto the staff of BinIT services Limitedand literature review among others. This laid a good foundation and blueprint for the design, development methodology such as questionnaire method and interview method, implementation, testing and validation. Benefits that accrue from the system include online registration of entities that have hazardous waste, provision of geographical locations of the entities, display of waste collection points, waste collection truck management and report generation among others. It is envisaged that when deployed, the system will help to reduce improper waste disposal as well as reducing environmental degradation and reviving on wetlands ecosystems and also propel Bin-IT Services Limited to greater heights.
