dc.description.abstractA study was carried out on Assessing the Filing and Storage of administrative active Records at Ministry of Lands Housing and Urban Development Headquarters Registry (MoLHUD), objectives were: to establish the current state of records filing and storage at MoLHUD registry, to find out how filing and storage of records at MoLHUD registry is managed; to identify the challenges of filing and storage at MoLHUD registry and the remedies that would improve the best practices in records management. The research methodology involved the adoption of a qualitative research design with a case study approach. Interview, document analysis, observation guides were the key data collection instruments. The researcher used a sample size of 9 respondents who comprised of 1 senior Records Officer, 3 Records Officers, 2 Assistant Records Officers and 3 Assistant Records Officer. The sampling technique was a purposive one and the study problem was assessing of administrative records filing and storage at the ministry registry. The study hoped to achieve the researcher a Bachelor’s Degree of Records and Archives Management of Makerere University The study findings revealed, that filing and storage of records at MoLHUD was not fully effective in that the registry was storing inactive records, poor quality of file folders, records placed on top of cabinets, lack of archival boxes whereby records were just bundled and inadequately placed on top of shelves and on the floor. In abide to have a good filing and storage system at MoLHUD the study therefore recommends in-house refresher trainings in records management and the provision of an offsite storage facility to create space for the active records.en_US
