dc.description.abstract | The objective of the study was to establish the key factors affecting pensioner’s accessibility
to their benefits in Pallisa District. The factors used in this study were Age, Gender, Occupation
Disability, Level of Education, Contribution to any pension scheme, Type of Benefit preferred,
Years in service(tenure). The analysis was carried out with aid of frequency distribution, chi square tests and logistic regression.
More than half of the respondents were females as 57 of the 109 taking on a percentage of
53.27%. Fairly proportioned in terms of exceeding and not exceeding the pension age (49.53%
and 50.47% respectively). Most of the respondents were employed (38.32%) followed by self employment (31.78%), Other occupations (17.76%), the unemployed (11.21%) while one
individual had retired (0.93%). Majority of the respondents were not disabled (71.03%).
Majority of the respondents went to institutions (41.12%) and contributions to at least a pension
scheme were made by (68.22%) of the respondents. Most of the participants preferred lump
sum to annuities and 78.5% of the respondents had been in service for 5 and above years.
Both the Bivariate and the Binary Logistic Regression proved that accessibility to pension
benefits in Pallisa district of Uganda depends on Age, Disability, Contributions made to any
pension scheme, and the Years in service of an individual.
Data analysis was performed using the Statistical Package of STATA 16 software package.
Furthermore, conclusions about the study were drawn and for increased accessibility to Pension
benefits in Pallisa District recommendations were made. | en_US |
