Exploring Satire in Uganda Marriage songs.
Abstract
The employment of satire specifically in songs hasn’t been fully and absolutely explored. Studies similar to this one have been carried out but on a very small scale. This research aims at exploring how, why and where satire is employed in Ganda marriage songs. It emphasizes the need to explore more about the importance of satire in oral tradition specifically songs. This study analyzes why satire makes a difference when used in Ganda marriage songs. Data/information that was the most important part of this study was acquired through interviews, the internet and by reading and comparing various literature pieces and articles
about satire, Oral literature and Baganda music. Results from this research showed that satire is crucial when a composer wants to ridicule or share important or vital information while coming off as humorous. Satire can also be used through exaggeration, ridicule etc. At the end of this study, I have been able to realize that a lot of studies ought to be done about satire and it’s various
possible forms of employment in Oral literature
